| Manitoulin Island is the largest island in a freshwater lake in the world.
A number of quiet, peaceful little towns on the island are connected by equally quiet, peaceful roads which mostly run through farming country. |

From a clifftop lookout point on Highway 6 called "Ten Mile Point", a few kilometers south of Sheguiandah and in a travel distance of about 35 min from "Deer Trail Cabins" there is an excellent view over part of Georgian Bay to Killarney Provincial Park on the mainland. |

| There are several waterfalls on the island which are worth visiting, including the "Bridal Veil Falls" at Kagawong, located about 35 minutes west of "Deer Trail Cabins". A well marked hiking trail and path lead up to the "Bridal Veil Falls" coming from the nearby docks. A couple of bridges allow you to cross over to the other side of the river if you prefer a really steep climb! the Falls are very attractive and one can swim in the pool below. |

| Manitoulin has many hiking trails which take anywhere from a couple of hours to a full day, requiring various degrees of fitness.
For the casual walker, there are nature trails and boardwalks in and around many of the quaint little towns.
 
"Cup and Saucer Hiking Trail" can be found about 18 km west of Little Current at the junction of Highway 540 and the Bidwell Road. With its 2 km of dramatic 70 metre cliffs and breathtaking views, up to 12 km of hiking trails, and the 2 km adventure trail, it is one of the most popular trails in Ontario. |
Experience the warmth and enthusiasm of Manitoulin Island's rich Aboriginal heritage. Travel the historical routes of early First nations people by canoe, learn the language of the land from your Aboriginal guide, catch a breath of fresh air alongside the still waters of LaCloche Lake in the heart of the Sagamok Anishnawbek territories and work with Aboriginal artisans in the community of Sheshegwaning to design and create your very own pair of moccasins or other special gift items.

The Pow Wow is hosted by the Wikwemikong Unceeded Indian Reserve. It is one of the biggest Pow Wows held on the island and considered to be a special event for young and old.

Wikwemikong Pow Wow is held on the August civic holiday weekend. The event features incredible dancing, savory cuisine and rhythmic hand drum and open drum music. |
